This quart size Continental decanter is cut in the English style, with a pressed mushroom stopper and polished pontil. Circa 1820-1840. Stands 8 1/2" tall without the stopper. The decanter is cut with alternating panels of horizontal and vertical mitre cuts around lower 1/3 of body; midsection cut with sharp diamonds; the shoulder with panel flutes; and facet cut neck rings. Though imitating Anglo/Irish glass of the period, there are some differences that easily distinguish this from the British Isles. Most noticeably is its lighter weight, the result of having been made from non-lead glass, which can only be detected under a black light. [lj/ld] [ph:L]
