This American or Continental decanter stands 6 1/4" tall, with a rough ground pontil.  It is unusual to find 18th century bottles this size.  It was either used as a cruet bottle at the table, a toilet bottle or a small liquor bottle for strong spirits.  It is closed with a cork and has a minute chip on the lip.  [lj/ld] [ph:L]
