Bohemian cut and engraved colorless decanter flashed with ruby glass, 1840-1860. Flashed glass has a very thin coating of a second color glass over the colorless base. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish flashed glass from high quality stained glass, so it is possible that this decanter is not flashed, but stained. The floral engraving is very good and was extremely popular at this time. The neck and lower body are cut with long vertical flutes. It has three applied neck rings and the base is polished to remove the pontil scar. It also has its original, panel cut stopper. The decanter is 10 1/4" tall without the stopper. There is some light staining in the lower part of the bottle. [LJ][PH:L]
