Engraved red stained Continental decanter with three applied neck rings and an open pontil , 1840-1850. This decanter stands 7 1/4" tall and retains its original, cone-shape stopper. This type stopper went out of fashion in the 1840s, so is a reliable dating tool. It is not a high-end production item. The quality of the fruiting vine engraving suggests that it was intended to be a non-expensive export item when it was made. [LJ][PH:L]
