Albert’s CS60. Button depicts fluted anchor with cannons over "CN", large hard rubber button intended for Confederate enlisted navy. Captain Terry Sinclair obtained these buttons from the English manufacturer for the Confederate warship, CSS Texas. The ship was being constructed at Thomson shipyard in England and was to be more powerful than the famed CSS Alabama. As the war dragged on and the English lost faith in the Confederate cause, the ship was seized and sold to another foreign power and Sinclair was captain without a ship. These buttons were never used and all were recovered from his estate. Backmark: "COURTNEY & TENNENT / (dot) CHARLESTON. S .C (dot) / MANTON'S PATENT" dm. Concave button made of hard rubber material designed to be sewed.   [ld]
