Non- dug standard Pennsylvania state jacket button made of three-piece, high-convex construction. There is a dark spot of wear on the left side on the horse’s rear and a small dark spot on the eagle’s wing but otherwise gilt finish remains overall.
This button was made by “Horstmann Brothers & Co. / Phil,” as evidenced by the backmark which lies between two rings. The shank is intact. However, there seems to be a small divot near the shank where the metal is beginning to wear through. Otherwise, there are no other issues to note. The gilt finish remains.
Overall, this is a nice clean representation of the standard general use Pennsylvania state coat button which was worn on many Pennsylvania soldiers’ uniforms during the Civil War. [cla] [ph:L]
