This button is quite rare and in very fine condition. Backmark: “J. DELARUE NEW. ORLEANS” rm. 22mm. Not listed in Albert’s. Extremely well crafted by J. Delarue, who was a jeweler and made high end buttons from 1811 to 1814. This one piece, raised design silver button shows extreme details in craftmanship throughout. Shows an open-winged eagle facing right, with big puffy clouds, “REGT.” below. In the right talon are 3 arrows; in the left talon, an olive branch with 6 leaves. Under the left wing is a shield.
A very limited number of these buttons were produced and are all well crafted, and almost always in super, non-excavated condition. The back is in beautiful condition with solid shank and nice script letter backmark in 2 solid rings. [ld][ph:L]
