While this is a fairly common button, the condition is not, being of high quality with almost 100% gilt remaining, hardly any loss at all. Very crisp details. One piece flat coat button. Of the type that could be purchased by any militia unit during the 1830’s and is most likely of English manufacture. Depicts a patriotic eagle facing right, beside a shield, surrounded by 16 stars on a lined background. Wide oval inner border, outer rope border. Shank present. Backmark: “IMPERIAL / .STANDARD.”, which is a trademark and denotes the quality gilting of the button. Albert’s GI61A. [LD] [ph:L]
