Offered here is a lot of 15 buttons; 13 coat size and 2 cuff size. All are two-piece Massachusetts Volunteer Militia buttons for Infantry. These are post 1865 buttons. In updated uniform regulations dated December 1865, the State of Massachusetts required that the buttons for all line and field grade officers were to have the branch of service represented by a letter (A, I, or C) surrounded by the “arm and broadsword” and “Mass. Volunteer Militia”.
All of these buttons have nicely gilted faces with the stand-up shank intact. All have the above mentioned “arm and sword” and text on the face with a large, raised letter “I” in the center (for Infantry). They are backmarked: “* D. EVANS & CO. * ATTLEBORO MASS” with an inner ring of hyphens.
