Here we have a hard-to-find Confederate staff officer’s jacket button that shows much of its original gilt. Given its age, there are a few very small spots that have shifted color and the brightness has worn off, but overall, this non-dug button retains its original coloration. This button features a raised eagle encircled by eleven stars on a lined field.
The two-piece construction of this button is noticeable on the reverse. The backmark reads: “HT&B” over “Manchester.” The shank is straight and firmly in place. Minor discoloration is present on the shank and just under the word “Manchester.” [cla] [ph:L]
