An original piece of Confederate money, being the $10 CSA T-68 bill featuring the horse-drawn artillery piece in the center of the bill. Engraved by Keatinge & Ball of Columbia, SC. Edward Keatinge ran an engraving company in New York, but would later be recruited by the Confederacy to produce money.  He partnered with Thomas Ball, of Virginia, and held shop in Richmond, eventually re-locating to Columbia, SC.

Dated February 17th 1864.  Plate letter, C.  Hand serial numbered, 6664. Tenth series. This note is in fair condition and the original pinkish shade has faded.

The reverse is decorated in blue ink with “TEN” and circular medallions with “1 0” in the corners.  Minor discoloration due to age.  Overall, the printing is clear and the contrast good.  No pin holes, no wrinkling, and no folds.

This $10 note is an interesting part of a turbulent history of southern currency, and a great addition to anyone interested in Confederate bank notes.  [mk] [ph:L]
