This is a copper token 1.55” in diameter. There is an amazing amount of information on both sides; with much that is tough to decipher due use of abbreviations and such things as the use of “v” for the letter “u”.
On the “face” (the side with the date) there is worn text in two outer bands: “NEW YEARS … / TO. THO. LD: PARKER / HVMB: INSCRIBD & DD / BY AND BVCKLEY.” Under that is: “FOR A.D. 1717 / ASH WED. M. 6. / EASTER. AP: 21 / WHITS: INV. 9.” In the center is a nine-column table for: “NO. OF D. & SVND: / IN EACH MONTH / [moon images] / MOON” with twelve rows, one for each month. There is a worn spot on this side of token.
The opposite side is divided into four quadrants, each turned 90-degrees from the last. This side is the most difficult to decipher. An example is: “EAS: MAY 8. IVN9 / AP 25 MARK. MA / 1. PHILLIP & IA / 28. K: GEOR: BOR / 29. K:CH: REST / 30 ASCENSI / IVN. II. BAR / 24 IOH: 29 / PETER.”
This has a very nice smooth, brown patina. From the collection of author/publisher Dean Thomas. [jet] [ph:L]
