This is an authentic 1861 dated Confederate States of America $10.00 note. This is listed as T-28 in Criswell's Confederate Currency book.
Printed in black on front with blank back. Figures of Ceres and Commerce seated with urn at top, left. A small vignette of an 1830s locomotive on right.
The note retains very nice tone and contrast. Numbered (1173) in red ink and signed in brown ink. Plate letter “A”. Several pin holes, light wrinkling, and some light staining. Centered well and trimmed very tight.
It was issued from Richmond, Virginia and has the printed date of September 2, 1861. The note has a very nice look. [jet] [ph:L]
