An original piece of Confederate money, being the $2 CSA T-42 bill featuring an allegorical vignette that represents the "South striking down the Union" and reflects Southern optimism early in the war. Portrait of Judah P. Benjamin – former U.S. senator from Louisiana who served as the Confederacy's attorney general, secretary of war and then secretary of state is in upper, left corner.

Dated June 2, 1862. Plate 4. Serial number 45197 in purple ink. Blank back. The printing is clear and the contrast good. A couple of pin holes, no wrinkling. Centered well, trimmed tight.  A fine Confederate 1862 bill.    [jet][ph:L]
