First published as a poem in Harper’s Weekly on November 30, 1861998-437 the words were set to music by John Hill Hewitt also known as “The Bard of the Confederacy” in 1863.

This piece of sheet music meas. approx. 9.50 x 12.00 inches. Cover is printed with blue ink on white paper. Full cover reads “ALL QUIET ALONG THE POTOMAC TONIGHT DEDICATED TO THE UNKNOWN DEAD OF THE PRESENT REVOLUTION.” Published by Julian A. Selby, Columbia, South Carolina. Stamped in black near the bottom of the front cover is “FROM J. J. RICHARDS & CO., BOOK & MUSIC STORE ATLANTA, GA.”

Item is in good condition with moderate surface dirt and light foxing throughout. In light period pencil across the top is a dedication presenting the sheet music from a brother to his sister.  [ad] [ph:L]
