Document grouping for Henry M. Parish, 13th Maryland (US) Volunteer Infantry, formerly of the 1st Potomac Home Brigade (1st Maryland Infantry). Three documents relating to Parish’s bounty payment, which include a Maryland State Treasurer’s receipt (dated July 8th 1865), Maryland State bounty certificate and a May 1865 copy of Parish’s eagle mast discharge. Signature authorities include Captain John Ramsburg and Captain L. A. Ruhn of the 13th Maryland, and Captain Robert Offley, a Regular Army officer of the 1st US Infantry, breveted for his service at the Battle of Vicksburg.
Henry Parish, of Frederick County, Maryland was 22 years of age and stood 5’7” in height, with fair complexion, gray eyes and dark hair. His profession upon enlistment was a miller. He first enlisted in the 1st Potomac Home Brigade in August 1861 and transferred to Company D, 13th Maryland Infantry on April 8th, 1865. The 1st Maryland’s service included Culp’s Hill at Gettysburg, the Battle of Monocacy and numerous guard duty assignments in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. Documents are all in very good, legible condition with about 3” of tear separation between folds on each of the three documents. [jc] [ph:L]
