Document is a pre-printed form with the New Jersey State Seal at upper left and headed “STATE OF NEW JERSEY OFFICE OF THE ADJUTANT GENERAL” and is dated December 3, 1864. The document was sent to Henry R. Cameron who was the County Clerk of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The document is written in period ink and adds three men to the state’s roll of volunteer soldiers. They are Thomas Anderson of Company B, 9th New Jersey Infantry, James Gillen of Company C, 1st New Jersey Cavalry and Edward Gross of Company B, 5th New Jersey Infantry. All three men did survive the war.
Document is signed at bottom by R. F. Stockton, Jr. as Adjutant General of New Jersey Militia.
Overall the document is in nice condition with two faint horizontal fold lines and a minor coffee or tea stain on the left side bottom.
Item is framed and mated with a 10-cent fractional currency note issued under the act of March 3, 1863. Note is in good used condition with the head of Columbia at left and “UNITED STATES TEN CENTS” over a red treasury seal.
Frame is modern and meas. approx. 14.25 x 20.50 inches. [ad] [ph:L]
