Dated “Headquarters 1st Army Corps / February 5th, 1863.” 2 pp. in ink, 7.75” x 12.75. Exhibits fold-marks, slight chipping along left margin. Also occasional slight smudging of ink. Else VG and entirely legible.
This secretarial copy (signed by a clerk, not Gen. Reynolds himself) orders the departure of the Third Division of the 1st Army Corps for Washington, a division comprised of the Pennsylvania Reserves which had long served under Corps commander John Reynolds, and to whom he bids affectionate farewell at the conclusion.

“Special Orders No. 29 {Extract}
3. In accordance with order from Head Quarters Army of the Potomac, the third Division of this Corps (Penna Reserves) will embark at Belle Plaine for Alexandria as soon as transportation is furnished, there to report to Major General Heintzelman—the sick and all the baggage of the troops will be taken with them. The division Staff, Capt. Hoyt and Reed, Commissaries, and Capt. Patton A.Q.M. will remain: Aso 121st and 142nd Penna. Vols., and the three batteries of artillery. Capt. Cooper Anderson and Lieut. T. R. Brice Ricketts. The Division Quarter Master to arrange details for embarkatio . The different Quarter masters will turn in all their transportation, and ambulance trains to the division quarter masters. . The troops will be supplied with three days cooked rations, no public animals of any kind will accompany the Division.
4. In separating from the Penna. Reserve Corps with which the commanding General has been so closely allied for the past eighteen months. , he cannot but express deep regret. They are however lessened by the hope that soon their thinned ranks will be filled, and they once more restored and reorganized and returned to the field. Prepared to add new lustre to a name already endeared to our Patriotic state.
