Dated Ordnance Office,  War Department, Washington, DC., Nov 15th, 1864. Pre-printed form, Property Returns Division.  Examination Section - Form I. B. 7. 1. 64. 50. Signed by order of  T. J. Headwell, Captain of Ordnance / Assist. to Chief of Ordnance.  1 page, measuring 10 x 8”.  Exhibits light soiling & fold marks, with slight chip in upper right corner. Else VG.

This letter certifies that the Co. “G”, 46th US Colored Infantry ordnance return has passed the administrative scrutiny of the Ordnance Bureau. Endorsed by “Lt. L.J. Michael/ Co. “G”, 46th US Col. Inf./ 17th Corps”.

The 46th US Colored was organized from 1st Arkansas Infantry of African descent in May 1864, and was posted in Vicksburg, MS, through November 1864, and later ordered to Brazos Samtiago, TX, prior to mustering out in January 1866.  [jp] [ph:L]
