Civil War era correspondence between camp and home was most important. To encourage patriotism and keep morale up, patriotic themed sheet paper and envelopes were produced and commonly available.

Offered here is an unused patriotic envelope featuring a colorful image of a Federal soldier in a zouave uniform. Titled “The Zouave Defender.” Blank lines are printed to be filled in, to properly address the letter to a military camp or location. Measures 4.5” x 3.25”.
