This high-quality reprinting of General Lee’s farewell address to the Army of Northern Virginia was produced in limited numbers for members of The Manuscript Society by Lakeside Press, a subsidiary of Chicago printers R. R. Donnelley & Sons.
This facsimile is an exacting copy, and was not resized or corrected for printing. It is printed on a high-quality, printed rendering of period-correct paper, down to the British watermark on the reverse. The subtle text “FACSIMILE: The Lakeside Press / R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company” is printed in white near the bottom edge of the reverse side. The piece is in the original portfolio folder as presented to Manuscript Society members, with a stapled insert detailing the context, project, document, and process. Note, the staples show some oxidation that has lightly stained the mounting points of the insert and folder. Dimensions of the paper are 7.95” x 12.75”.
An excellent reproduction - rare in its own right and worthy of display among most any Civil War collection. [cm][ph:L]
