Framed in brown wood w/inner trim, 23.5” x 19, w/brown paper wrap & hang-wire. Double matted in beige and light blue, the inner etching depicts five scenes in white and black: “Slave Cabin”, “The Old Grist Mill”, “Sam”, “Got any Pies, Aunty?”, and “A Picaninny.’
Frame exhibits light nicks at the extremities. Otherwise, beautifully matted and quite handsome.
Edwin Forbes was a famed Frank Leslie’s Illustrated artist throughout the war. His masterful two volume set—“Life Studies of the Great Army”—was published in 1876.
