This image depicts an iconic photograph showing Abraham Lincoln and his youngest son, Tad, in a tender moment, likely from February 1864. The original image was recorded by Anthony Berger at the Mathew Brady studio. During a lull in the photography session, Lincoln and Tad began looking through a photo album on a table. Brady captured the moment, creating a portrait of a father and son that felt intimate and sentimental. Following Lincoln's death this image became one of the most enduring and popular photographs of Lincoln and his son, used for countless prints, lithographs, and other reproductions.
This piece is a photograph of a lithograph based on the original image. The oval image remains clean and clear with good contrast. The rectangular mount has printed gold rules surrounding the image. No photographer’s imprints are visible as it is mounted in a textured oval wood frame. There is an orange two-cent revenue stamp on the back.
Frame measures approximately 12” x 14”. [jet] [ph:L]
