A brilliantly rendered original watercolor by Dan Vance, depicting a mounted trooper of the French 7th Hussar Regiment in full Napoleonic-era uniform. The soldier is shown aboard a spirited chestnut horse, carbine raised and leveled, his striking uniform rendered in meticulous detail — green dolman jacket, black fur busby with vivid red plume, wolf-skin shabraque with red trim, and the regiment's distinctive "7" sabretache visible at his side. The crisp white background focuses all attention on the figure and horse, rendered with the confident draftsmanship and luminous color characteristic of the finest military uniform illustration.
The 7th Hussars served with distinction throughout the Napoleonic Wars, seeing action across Europe from the Italian campaigns through Waterloo. This image captures the regiment at the height of its imperial glory.
Signed by the artist in the lower right. Presented in an ornate dark wood frame with black mat and gold inner fillet.
