The painting is executed on illustration board bearing the printed manufacturer's mark "LetraMax 2000 Ruling Mechanical Board" (Esselte Letraset), a professional-grade board commonly used by commercial and editorial artists for camera-ready production art in the pre-digital era. The artist has signed the work "RNS" in ink at lower right, and the reverse of the mount is inscribed by hand in marker, "MOSBY'S RANGERS," identifying the subject — this title has ghosted through faintly onto the painting's protective overlay sheet.

The flag is rendered with a circle of white stars on a blue canton and three bars in the red-white-red configuration. This appears to be production or reference artwork — likely created for a book, magazine, or product illustration project depicting Confederate unit flags — rather than a work intended from the outset as a standalone fine art piece. We have not been able to identify artist "RNS" with certainty; the initials remain unattributed pending further research.
