Offered here is an old frame with a sheet about “Jack” with illustration and text. Frame measures 6.5” x 8.5” and shows wear.
"Jack" the canine soldier was a famous brown-and-white bull terrier mix who served as the beloved official mascot for the 102nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment (historically known as the "Old 13th" Pennsylvania Volunteers) during the Civil War. Before his military service, Jack was a stray dog hanging around the Niagara Volunteer Fire Company on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, many of the volunteer firemen enlisted in Company F of the 102nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and they brought Jack along with them. Jack was treated as a true soldier by his regiment. He participated in drills, dress parades, and numerous major engagements of the Eastern Theater, including the Siege of Yorktown, the Battle of Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and the Siege of Petersburg. He went missing in late 1864. Much more detail can be found on the internet. [jet] [ph:L]
