Offered here is a paper commission promoting Henry Russell to the rank of Second Lieutenant in Company “A” of the 72nd Pa. Infantry. Dated January 25, 1863.
Commission measures 16.75” x 13.25”. Visually appealing with state seal and various text fonts. Raised red seal attached.
Paper remains strong other than heavy folds and some separation along those folds.
Henry Russell was from Philadelphia; born in 1840. He enlisted into the 17th PA. Infantry (a three-month regiment) and was mustered out 8/2/1861 and enlisted as a Quartermaster Sergeant a week later into the 72nd PA. Infantry. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in Company “A” on 1/25/1863. He was discharged on 7/28/1863. [jet][ph:L]
