Born in Harmony, Maine, at 18 years of age Edwin Dore enlisted for three years, mustered as a private into Co. “F”, 36th Wisconsin Infantry, 2/25/1864. Discharged due to injuries suffered in the line of duty, by Army “Surg. U.S.V. In charge” E. Griswold, Washington, DC., 6/19/1865.
His personal characteristics: Five feet ten inches high, light complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, and by occupation, a farmer.
Organized late in March 1864, the 36th Wisconsin participated in all the major actions of Grant’s 1864 overland Campaign to the end—From Spotsylvania to Appomattox. During service the unit lost 157 killed and mortally wounded and 185 by disease for a total of 342.
