Standard “To all whom it may Concern” government form, 8.25” x 11. In light wooden frame w/card backing and hang-wire at top. Exhibits fold-marks, wrinkles, darkened traces of tape, yellowing and minor spots of soiling, while remaining entirely legible. Else good.
Daniel Kreider was a 21 year old resident of Lancaster County who enlisted 6/20/1863 as a private in Co. I”, 29th PA Cavalry—a six month emergency unit mustered in response to the 1863 Rebel invasion of Pennsylvania. Personal characteristics: 21 years of age—5 feet 8 inches high—fair complexion—grey eyes—black hair—occupation farmer. Discharged at Harrisburg, PA, 1/29/1864.
This emergency unit was marched to Greencastle, PA, 7/7/1863, and engaged in the pursuit of Lee’s army to Falling Waters, Maryland. Private Kreider’s Co. “I” was ordered to guard the Bo & O railroad at Berkeley Springs. Mustered out Harrisburg, 1/29/1864, with no casualties. [jp][ph:L]
