3 page letter in ink, 5” x 7”. Dated Fort Macon, Oct 14th 1861. Handwriting is good, and good content.  Partial text as follows:

“…the Yankeys is a fraid of us, they is a bout 100 men to keep the Yankeys a way”, “…they only a bout 650 at the Fort the rest is up the beach a bout 8 miles to keep them (US troops) from landing up there….”   “…They is one of Old Abe’s vessels laying in sight of hear now…they do not come within reach of our guns…they listen for the news from “Washton”…”If we get a victory the war is about ended.”

This letter is penned to his cousin “Em”. Signed with initials but can be made out and researched.
