2pp., 17” x 23., 6 columns. Exhibits fold-marks, light chipping at the extremities. Else VG.
Contains new from the Confederate States Congress and the Virginia House of Representatives as well as new of various regiments. Also list performances at the Budd & McDowells Opera House and The Richmond Theatre—presenting the “Opera of the Brigand” and the “Military Drama of the French Spy.”
The editorial page still breathes defiance, however, as late as March 1865—“We cannot help thinking that our “friends, the enemy” are a little premature in assuming the South to be at their feet. There are southern armies of of magnitude still in the field, and Richmond, the capital, is more impregnable at this hour than it has been at any period of the wear—the thirty days which seems to be allowed us as elastic as the grace of ninety days , which the same sanguine temper accorded to us at the beginning of the war.”
Excellent end-of-the-war Richmond Newspaper collectible. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing. [jp] [ph:L]
