Vol. IX—No. 442. 16 pp. [369-384], with numerous stories, illustrations and cartoons. Front cover features full length portrait of Lincoln’s war-time Secretary of State, who was nearly assassinated by J. Wilkes Booth’s fellow conspirator, Lewis Payne, with accompanying story on page two. Other illustrations include an attractive portrait of W.T. Sherman, two sketches depicting “The clothes In Which Davis Disguised Himself” [during his attempt to escape capture, and a group photo of the “Officer Engaged in the Capture of Davis”—[from a photo by Alexander Gardiner}. Plus, sketches of “Rebel Soldiers Taking the Oath of Allegiance In The Senate Chamber at Richmond, Virginia”, and former Union prisoner amputees.

Exhibits old tape repair along left margin, with adjacent light stains running parallel to the tape.  Pages 375-378 have chipping along the right edge. Solid issue, w/cover portrait.
