Measuring 16” x 21.75.  In period wooden frame, w/gilt inner trim. Mounted on white card  22.25 x 28.25. With wooden reverse backing and hang-wire.

This front page is from the 8:10 Am edition—DEATH of the President—(above center fold). Major headlines: “IMPORTANT. Assassination of President Lincoln—The President Shot at the Theater Last Evening—Secretary Seward Daggered in his Bed / But / Not mortally wounded.”

Six columns, inner columns edged in mourning black. Other headlines: “THE REBELS / JEFF DAVIS AT DANVILLE…He Thinks the Fall of Richmond as a Blessing in Disguise, as it Leaves Rebel Armies Free to Maneuver From Point to Point---He Vainly Promises to Hold Virginia At All Hazards—Breckinridge and the Rest of Davis Cabinet Reach Danville Safely.”

The frame exhibits minor dings customary with age and usage.  The sheet displays yellowing and age toning while remaining entirely legible. Solid memento of a sad and  most memorable day in American history.  [jp] [ph:L]

GERMAN SILVER BUGLE AND DISCHARGE OF BEVERLY W. MUSSELMAN, COMPANY MUSICIAN AND PRINCIPAL MUSICIAN: 13th PA Militia, 178th PA, 210th PA. MENTIONED IN A 1915 COUNTY HISTORY
