Reproduced copy of the Daily Citizen published in Vicksburg, Mississippi under editor J.M Swords.  Copy is of the July 2nd, 1863 issue, two days before the fall of Vicksburg to Federal forces.  Topics include the effort of the home front, Northern occupation of Vicksburg, overall victories of Robert E. Lee, Federal and Confederate advancements to Gettysburg, and troop movements in general.

Item comes in plexiglass frame.  Article measures 19 ¼” x 12 1/8”.  From the top third of the first column the top of the third column there is a tear that was repaired with tape.  There are several paper tears throughout the edges of the item.  On the bottom right is another 5” tear repaired with tape starting in the second column and ending in the fourth. There is a significant dark spot midway on the fourth column and on the bottom right-hand corner.

On reverse, is reproduced wall paper.  This was typical to an original item.  Due to mass shortages throughout the country during the Civil War, paper was particularly scarce.  Every little scrap was used, and in this instance, it would have been wall paper. [mc] [ph:L]
