Vol. IX.—No. 456. 16 pp. [593-608], four columns, w/numerous illustrations and cartoons. Front cover features stories of “Military Executions at Camp Chase”, and an illustration of “Champ Ferguson and His Guard.” [A vicious Confederate partisan guerrilla, Ferguson was being tried and would eventually be hung, the only other Confederate besides Captain Wirz whom Union authorities would execute for war crimes.]

Other Illustrations include a sketch of “The Breaking of the Atlantic Telegraph Cable On Board The “Great Eastern” [at sea], August 2, 1865.” Plus a striking depiction of the “New Boston City Hall.”  Plus an editorial pooh poohing Robert E. Lee’s appointment at President of Washington College in Lexington, VA;  titled “A Perfect Model,”  piece stating that Lee was a soldier  “educated by his country, who, confessing that he nor any man had provocation, drew his sword  to stab her to the heart……This is the “Grand and Heroic” character  which American youth are invoked to venerate. They will obey the summons when they have learned to admire Benedict Arnold.”

Exhibits mounting dots and torn lower left corner. Else near fine. Solid collectible. In protective sleeve, with white card backing.  [jp][ph:L]
