This rare southern newspaper was published in the wake of Antietam, not even a month after the climactic battle. Among other things, content includes summaries of the military situation in parts of the deep south, an account from a 5th Texas soldier about his participation at Antietam, analysis of Lee’s retreat from Maryland, and a printing of the Second Conscription Act.
Single sheet of paper is folded horizontally at center with a vertical crease through the top center fold. Paper is in good condition with some foxing, but paper integrity is very good with no tearing or chipping (save for a very small tear on the right edge). Text on either side remains complete and strong. Some rolling and wear are noted at the top edge as shown. A penciled signature is observed at top left but is largely illegible. Dimensions are 11.8” x 18”.
A neat wartime piece for Civil War or Antietam historians and ephemera collectors. [cm] [ph:L]
