Dated “July 21-22, 1864”. 11TH PA Infantry request for use of a horse for its adjutant. Signed in sequence by Brigade commander, Brig. General R. de Trobriand--Division commander Maj. Genl. D. Birney—and 2nd Corps commander Maj. Genl. W.S. Hancock.
The memo is ink, 3,25 x 8,5”, matted in blue and gold, accompanied by a famed print of the three generals listed above, along with Joel Barlow. Mounted in an attractive wooden frame, 13 x 14’’, handsomely trimmed in black and bold.
This 11th PA request for a government horse—signed by three prominent AOP Corps generals--dates from the Petersburg line a week before the Union assault of the Crater. Superb AOP collectible. [jp] [ph:L]
