5” x 5” lined New York Tribune stationery that has been trimmed in length; handwritten in ink. Dated New York, March 27, 1873. Written to an unknown person, Reid advises that Horace Greeley’s articles “on Protection” were published in book form. Signed, “Very respectfully, Whitelaw Reid”.
Reid assisted Greeley as editor of the Tribune; he purchased the paper upon Greeley’s death in 187s and controlled it until his death. He served as minister to France, ran for Vice President with President Harrison, and was also the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Overall very good condition, light yellowing along upper edge. [jet] [ph:L]
