1 page letter in ink, measures 8” x 9 ¾”. Dated Indianapolis, Indiana, May 25, 1863. The Library of Congress records several maps published by Perrine during the Civil War, including “Perrine’s New Topographical War Map of the Southern States,” 1863. In 1864, it was issued with “John S. Bishop’s A Concise History of the War. Designed to Accompany Perrine’s New War Map of the Southern States, with an Introduction and Statistical Appendix, Compiled from Authentic Sources.” Text of the letter reads:
“I am compiling some statistics to accompany a new war map of the Southern States with I am about to publish and as I desire to have every thing as full and accurate as possible I should feel myself under many obligations if you would furnish me with the number of men furnished by your State to the Army and Navy of the Union from the commencement of the war…”. Signed “Your most humble servt / Charles O Perrine”.
Overall very fine, clean condition. All text legible. Light vertical band of age yellowing along left side; 2 fold lines. [ld][ph:L}
