Designed to Accompany Perrine’s New War Map of the Southern States, with an Introduction and Statistical Appendix, Compiled from Authentic Sources.” Text of the letter reads:
“I am compiling some statistics to accompany a new war map of the Southern States with I am about to publish and as I desire to have every thing as full and accurate as possible I should feel myself under many obligations if you would furnish me with the number of men furnished by your State to the Army and Navy of the Union from the commencement of the war…”. Signed “Your most humble servt / Charles O Perrine”.
