Offered is the signature of US Brevet Major General Jefferson C. Davis. Please click on this link for a full history of this officer: Jefferson C. Davis - Wikipedia .
This is clearly not a "clipped" signature as it is on a paper measuring 4 inches by 3 inches. Boldly done in ink that shows a minimum of fading is: "Jef "(sic) C. Davis" over "Bvt Maj Gen". Docketed on the reverse in ink is: "Given me by Mrs. William Gillette." Followed by in pencil "from her father's collection. Francis ----". One of the harder to find Union general's signatures.
