Offered is this rare French pension document (Extrait d’un Arrete) issued under President Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte (Napoleon III), which grants a government pension of 6,000 Francs to M. Lacathon de Laforest de Neuville – the former Consul General of France in New York.  The pension was granted in 1850 in recognition of 30 years of diplomatic service.

This official ministerial extract is dated 3/25/1850 and signed by General de la Hitte, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs.  The reverse bears multiple 1850’s archival index number stamps, consistent with French administrative paperwork of the period.  Period, laid paper features official Ministry of Foreign Affairs letterhead and appropriately oxidized ink. The paper is folded vertically and horizontally at center (into quarters), and measures 11.4” x 15.8” unfolded. No major tears or damage are noted, save for a miniscule spot of missing material at the center fold.
