The French "Fusil D'Infanterie Modele 1728" was the gun carried by regulars and militia in the French and Indian War. Later these were used by the Colonists in the American Revolution; a bayonet to fit one of these comes available once in a lifetime!

The iron bayonet is untouched and uncleaned with a smooth deep brown patina and no loses. There is minor surface, easily removed rusting here and there. The socket designed to fit the .69 caliber weapon is 3 inches long. The blade is 13 1/8 inches long and has a shallow 6-inch-long groove wide groove running back from the tip. The neck that joins blade and socket is 1 7/8 inches high. There is a 1 3/4-inch-long pronounced shoulder at the point where this neck meets the socket; this covers the seam created when forming the socket. The slot cut to fit the top mounted lug/sight is in the shape of a "L" and is 3/8 of an inch wide; it was possibly widened 1/8th of an inch during its period of use. There is a French stamped proof or inspector's mark on the underside of the blade. This bayonet was recently found in an 18th century home in Fredericksburg Virginia.
