This bayonet model can be fitted a M1842 percussion musket. The bayonet is bright with ‘U.S’ clearly stamped on the face flat. The blade measures 18” and the socket is just shy of 3” measuring 2 ¾”. Locking ring is tight and shows signs of oxidation. Typical of this model bayonet is a ‘zig zag’ mortise, which is also present on this item.
Good addition for any collector looking for earlier accoutrement pieces. [MK] [ph:L]
