This item accompanied a British Pattern 1842 percussion musket.
There is a clear maker’s stamp ‘G.S’ on the face of the blade. Just beneath the stamp are additional markings ‘M’ and ‘2’. The blade from shoulder to tip measures the standard 17” for this particular pattern. The socket is 3” and has sings of pitting. The socket to shoulder is bright and the blade is dark. Along the lip of the socket there are etched marks ‘X I I I’. [MK] [ph:L]
