US M1816 SOCKET BAYONET

$165.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-5673

This is an original angular socket bayonet made for the US Model 1816 Flintlock Musket longarm. In time, the M1816 was converted to a percussion musket and the accompanying accoutrements could also be affixed to the newer conversion. The M1816 bayonet was the first American bayonet to include a uniformly ground flute and the first bayonet to employ the “T” mortise in the socket. The triangular blade on this particular item measures 16” and the socket measures 3”. “US” is stamped into the flat shank. Overall, the bayonet has a dark brown patina and is in good condition.
