This bayonet model can be fitted to a M1842 percussion musket. The bayonet has a very dark brown patina. ‘U.S’ is stamped on the face flat. The blade measures 18” and the socket is just shy of 2 ¾”. The socket has a few scuff marks on the face. The locking ring moves smoothly and the screw is missing. Typical of this model bayonet is a ‘zig zag’ mortise, which is also present on this item.
Good addition for any collector looking for earlier accoutrement pieces. [mk] [ph:L]
