Overall, the bayonet meas. approx. 25.50 inches with a 20.00 inch long straight blade that has an unstopped 14.00 inch central fuller. The blade surface is in excellent condition with minor scattered spots of oxidation. Ricasso is marked on one side with “A--- MFG CO. CHICOPEE, MASS.” and on the other with “USN” over “CGS” over “1870.” Blade has a true edge that is free of nicks.
Heavy cast brass grip is covered an overlapping fish scale decoration with a bird head pommel that has crossed Dahlgren guns over a kedge anchor within a stippled circle on both sides. Button fastener works properly. Heavy brass guard has quillon and muzzle ring.
Full length scabbard is of black leather with brass throat and finial. Throat has a button fastener for attaching to a frog. Scabbard shows light surface dirt but is in otherwise excellent condition. [ad] [ph:L]
