This Federal accoutrement is an original angular socket bayonet made for the US Model 1816 Flintlock Musket longarm. In time, the M1816 was converted to a percussion musket and the accompanying accoutrements could also be affixed to the newer conversion. The M1816 bayonet was the first American bayonet to include a uniformly ground flute and the first bayonet to employ the “T” mortise in the socket.

The blade measures 18” standard for the 1835/42 musket conversions.  The socket measures 3”.

has no locking ring on the socket. “U S” is stamped into the face flat and blade is bright.    [SR] [ph:L]
