This is the Krag – Jorgensen bayonet used on the model 1892 Krag rifle.
From point to pommel the drawn bayonet meas. approx. 16.00 inches long. The blade meas. approx. 11.50 inches with a central fuller that is approx. 8.00 inches long. The blade is semi-bright with heavy oxidation and signs of having been resharpened. Ricasso is marked “US” on one side and “1894” on the other. Edge is free of any nicks.
The hilt has a bird head iron pommel and a flat iron guard with “o” ring. The wood grips are in good condition with the wood still showing some feathering. Mortise and button attachment work well. Hilt is in overall nice shape.
The steel scabbard is the Type 2 introduced in 1895. The front side has a dark patina with moderate surface pitting while the reverse is also dark but with heavier surface pitting. [ad] [ph:L]
