In 1888 the P-1887 Mk III was approved with an unfullered blade and a coil spring on the locking mechanism.
For the Martini Henry breechloading rifle and will fit the Mk.1 thru Mk. IV rifle. Bayonet measures 23 3/4" overall with correct unfullered blade. Stamped with "Wilkinson / Sword Company / London" under "/89" date under "Crown/VR" on ricasso. Opposite stamped crisply "Broad Arrow / WD" and "Crown/ 49/ W". Same "Crown/49/W" struck on spine of blade. Blade measures 18 1/4". Never refinished or polished. Arabic-like engraving on crossguard. Correct original leather grip scales held by rivets. Moderate wear to grips. Serial number “7452” on pommel. Button spring lock works well.
Correct leather & steel scabbard serial numbered on throat “11840”. Stitching remains unbroken. Original staples holding throat and drag. Tear-shaped belt lug.
Good, solid condition overall. [jet] [ph:L]
